Twinkling Stars is the entry level chorus, offered in the spring of each year, for boys and girls, ages 6 - 8. The audition will include singing Happy Birthday, and any second favorite song. Pitch matching ability will also be tested. An interview with the instructor will determine the student’s commitment and readiness for participation. Children that participate as Caroling Kids in the fall become Twinkling Stars in the spring. Emphasis is placed on learning traditional songs, including American and multi-cultural folk songs and popular classics. Some new compositions are also a part of the mix. Several performances occur at the end of the semester and usually include singing at the malls (The Village or the Corte Madera Town Center), and along the race course at the Marin Human Race. They will also share their gift of song with the elderly at several local retirement homes. These pre-performances prepare them for their final big moment at Spring Concert with the combined youth choruses in May. Rehearsals are held once a week, on Mondays or Tuesdays in Mill Valley, and Thursdays in San Rafael. Instruction during this time includes some basic music fundamentals, ear training, and vocal technique through warm-ups, learning of songs, and musical games. Through a partnership with the Canal Welcome Center, we offer our Twinkling Stars classes on Thursday afternoons at their facility to low-income families in the San Rafael area.
