The “Stars” of SingersMarin are the youth choruses. Divided by age levels and experience, these ensembles teach valuable musical skills through a repertoire of varied musical styles, building confidence in performance as they share their gift of song with others. The singers are accepted into the chorus through an audition process.
Comets is the chorus for boys, ages 9 and up. This group continues the musicianship training they received in Caroling Kids and/or Twinkling Stars with more advanced vocal techniques, ear training, and sight singing. The audition will include singing the first verse of America the Beautiful for memory, and a second song of his choice. It will also include singing the Do Re Mi scale, testing for pitch memory, and current degree voice change. An interview with the instructor will determine the student’s commitment and readiness for participation.
Performances this season will include a collaboration with the Golden Gate Opera at the Marin Center in October. In addition, several community outreach performances are held throughout the year at retirement homes and health care facilities, Further performances will include local events, as the Mill Valley Memorial Day Parade, and the Marin Human Race. Two concerts for the general public are scheduled during the year: a special Holiday Concert with all of SingersMarin’s youth and adult choruses in December, and a combined youth chorus concert in May.
The Comets are currently rehearsing with Starlights. As the program gains more singers, the Comets will break away from Starlights, holding their own rehearsals and singing their own repertoire.
In Comets, these young men learn lessons of professionalism and self-assurance, and the relationships they forge can last a lifetime. Come and be a part of something new and exciting!
