Caroling Kids is the entry level chorus, offered in the fall of each year, for boys and girls, ages 6 - 8. The audition will include singing Happy Birthday, and any second favorite song. Pitch matching ability will also be tested. An interview with the instructor will determine the student’s commitment and readiness for participation. Caroling Kids have been delighting Marin County residents since 1995 when they first appeared on the Holiday scene. In the fall of each year, these young singers begin rehearsing all of the traditional music of the holidays, including Christmas carols, Hanukkah songs, and winter popular standards. They then participate in holiday events that begin in late November and continue through December. Past performances have included the San Rafael “Parade of Lights”, the Mill Valley “Winterfest”, caroling at The Village and the Corte Madera Town Center, or along the main streets of Tiburon and Larkspur. They also share their gift of song with the elderly in performances at retirement homes. In their final performance, they lead the Carol Sing-Along at the annual SingersMarin Holiday Concert. Rehearsals are held once a week, on Mondays or Tuesdays in Mill Valley, and Thursdays in San Rafael. Instruction during this time includes some basic music fundamentals, ear training, and vocal technique through warm-ups, learning of songs, and musical games. Through a partnership with the Canal Welcome Center, we offer our Caroling Kids classes on Thursday afternoons at their facility to low-income families in the San Rafael area. The youth choruses of SingersMarin are divided by age levels and experience. These ensembles teach valuable musical skills through a repertoire of varied musical styles, building confidence in performance as they share their gift of song with others. The singers are accepted into the chorus through an audition process.
