Announcing the SingersMarin 25th anniversary concert on April 23 at Davies Symphony Hall, featuring compositions by Igor Stravinsky and Gwyneth Walker and conducted by Artistic Director and founder of Singers Marin – Jan Pedersen Schiff, 2013 inductee into the Marin Women’s Hall of Fame.

Enjoy an elegant evening of choral entertainment and support the arts!

San Francisco, CA – Please mark your calendars for this very special concert:  How Can We Keep from Singing!  The performance will host a variety of choral groups and will feature a newly commissioned piece by Gwyneth Walker written specifically for this concert that commemorates 25 years of wonderful music brought to the community by Singers Marin under the leadership of Artistic Director, Jan Pedersen Schiff.  SingersMarin is celebrating 25 years of bringing musical joy to the community and invites you to share in this experience.  Guest ensembles include:  Branson High School Chamber SingersGolden Gate Men's ChorusVoci Women’s Vocal Ensemble, and the Mill Valley Philharmonic

Singers Marin’s youth and adult ensembles along with the guest choirs will each perform selected works by Gwyneth Walker.  In addition, our guest orchestra, the Mill Valley Philharmonic, will perform a chosen work of their own, followed by Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms” with 200 singers from the combined Singers Marin and guest adult and teen choruses.  Igor Stravinsky described his choral/orchestral works:  “It is not a symphony in which I have included Psalms to be sung.  On the contrary, it is the singing of the Psalms that I am symphonizing.”  Our conductor, Jan Pedersen Schiff reflects:  “This composition is one of the most profoundly spiritual pieces I have ever sung in my life”, and she looks forward to conducting and sharing this experience with the singers and the audience.

Be part of this special event and meet our guest composer, Gwyneth Walker at two special receptions, one before the event at a lovely Tiburon home and also after the concert by making a donation to help us underwrite the costs of this Gwyneth Walker’s commission and the anniversary concert.

Appropriately, the concert will close with Gwyneth Walker's powerful arrangement of the Quaker hymn, "How Can I Keep from Singing!"  A reception for donors and those who purchase the $100 tickets will follow with the composer in the beautiful Wattis Room at Davies.  We hope you will join us in this post-concert celebration by making a donation toward our 25th anniversary season or purchasing your tickets through City Box Office:  Click here to donate now!

"We Are the World" - YSM Spring Concert 2011

Our talented youth groups put on a great spring concert on May 22nd. It was a wonderful showcase of the future of SingersMarin. The concert's theme was "We Are the World" and featured such pieces as "I've Got the World on a String, Healing River, Cantate Domino, With a Little Help From My Friends," and more.

SingersMarin is dedicated to continuing its tradition of providing quality musical education for our young community. Congratulations to Jan, the assistant conductors and all our talented youth for putting on another great program!

"With a Song in My Heart" - Wings of Song Spring Concert 2011

The lovely ladies of Wings of Song, who are known for their artistic excellence and angelic sound, put on a fabulous spring concert at the Community Congregational Church in Tiburon on May 15th. The program was enchanting and eclectic and included pieces by Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Morten Lauridsen, Randall Thompson, as well as beautifully arranged spirituals by Gwyneth Walker and more.

There was a wonderful audience in attendance which made the concert very special. Continuing in the tradition of community outreach, Wings of Song also performed at various retirement homes throughout Marin. The performances all seemed to be enjoyed immensely by the residents and it is always a rewarding experience for the singers to give back to the community. Congratulations to Jan and the ladies for putting on a great program!

Marin Human Race: May 7, 2011

SingersMarin participated in the Marin Human Race on May 7th along with many other fabulous Non-Profit organizations and their supporters. It was a total success! Our wonderful participants raised an amazing amount of donations for our organization.

Our very own teen ensemble, les etoiles, kicked off the race with the National Anthem. Then along the race course, the SingersMarin youth ensembles performed as well.

Thank you to all the participants and supporters for making this event such a great success! We couldn't have done it without you!

SingersMarin hosts the Hanns Eisler Chor of Berlin, April 2011

This past April, SingersMarin, had the great pleasure of hosting the Hanns Eisler Chor of Berlin. Our association with this group goes back to the early 90's when Christina Hoffman Moeller, director of the Hanns Eisler chorus, while on sabbatical in Marin, sang with Wings of Song.

In 1997 Wings of Song members had the good fortune to visit Berlin and perform in concert with the Hanns Eisler Choir in their SurpEisler Series. The chorus members graciously opened up their homes and provided them with a taste of life as "Berliners". SingersMarin was more than happy to accommodate their exchange when the HEC came to the bay area to perform a series of Kurt Weill inspired concerts.

Their stay culminated with a wonderful joint concert on April 27th which featured Wings of Song and Just Voices performing selections from their spring concert repertoire, and the Hanns Eisler choir performing selections from their own Kurt Weill program, "Bird of Passage". The concert rose to a crescendo when all groups combined together for a wonderful joint choral experience. It was a shining example of how music has no boundaries. We look forward to our next exchange with this wonderful group.
